For Christmas, Orfé Design wanted to offer to their clients and partners a series of blank postcards with postage stamps as a symbol of a way to connect with loved ones during the pandemic. I was asked to lead this project. Since the theme of the project was connection with others, I decided that it would be appropriate to create something collaborative that included the whole team instead of being the sole designer to work on it.
Planning: As I wanted this to be a communal art piece, the challenge would be in finding a way for each designer to be able to express themselves without compromising or clashing with the artwork of others. After some rounds of experimenting and troubleshooting, I concluded that the project would work best with geometric shapes. I designed a template with pre-made shapes and simple instructions, then sent it to the other designers. It was amazing to see each designer's unique style come out in the designs they sent back!
Colour Palette: I wanted the colours to be collaborative as well, so after placing the shapes together I sent the grayscale cards to all the designers and asked for them to send it back in 3 colour variations. Afterwards, I printed out the twenty-something options and asked everyone to vote for their favorite ones.
Finalizing: Once the collaborative art was finished, I designed the rest of the card and envelope using Orfé's branding, collaborating with the copywriter to ensure the message worked well in both languages. Once approved, I met with the printer to choose the right cardstock before having them printed, assembled and mailed out.
Result: Although this task required participation from the whole team during the busiest time of the year, the project was completed a week ahead of schedule. The designers were happy to be involved, and the gifts were well-received by the clients as well as the friends and families of the designers.
