The challenge
For the holidays, Orfé wanted to send clients and partners blank postcards with postage stamps, a way to connect with loved ones during the pandemic. I led the project, and since the theme was connection, I wanted the whole design team to create it together. The challenge was letting each designer express their style without clashing with the others.
The approach
A shared shape system
After some experimenting, I settled on geometric shapes. I designed a template with ready-made shapes and simple rules, then sent it to the designers. Seeing each person’s style come through in their compositions was a highlight.
Colour
To keep colour collaborative too, I sent the assembled grayscale cards back to everyone for three colour variations each, printed the twenty-plus options and had the team vote on their favourites.
Production
I designed the rest of the card and the envelope in Orfé’s branding, worked with the copywriter so the message worked in both languages, and chose the cardstock with the printer before the cards were printed, assembled and mailed.
The outcome
Despite needing the whole team during the busiest time of year, the project wrapped a week ahead of schedule. The designers loved being involved, and the cards were warmly received by clients and by the designers’ friends and families.
